A new online service has been launched by Shercar to help local authorities track down debtor's vehicles, with a view to seizing them and selling them at auction.
Shercar, a division of the UK's largest High Court enforcement agency Shergroup, has launched www.shercar.net, which allows users to key in a vehicle's registration number which is then matched with those on the DVLA database.
Details about the vehicle's registered keeper are returned via email within 48 hours. The user must have a county court warrant to obtain the information and the case number needs to be keyed into the website and a small fee paid in order to obtain the details. This system was previously paper based, but by making it online, it is now much quicker and more efficient.
Shergroup Chief Executive Claire Sandbrook explained: "Very few organisations are legitimately allowed to access the DVLA database but, as the UK's leading High Court enforcement agency, we have been given their backing to develop this website so that we can access the information on behalf of our clients."
"Once a user has keyed in the registration number, we can confirm who the vehicle is registered to, we can visit their premises to check they are the owner and not just the registered keeper, and we can then establish if it is subject to finance arrangements."
"We can even discover if it has been stolen or written off, and arrange for it to be towed away from anywhere in the country and sold at auction."
"Whether it is a mini or a juggernaut, we can remove that vehicle for sale. We have a removal helpline, and even an auctioneers' panel set up through sister company Sherforce, to take the worry away from people whose job it is to recoup money owed."
Shergroup is based in Colchester, London, Leeds, and Delhi, and is the largest High Court enforcement agency in the UK. It is the only enforcement firm in the top 200 law firms, and is the sixth oldest law firm in the UK, dating back to 1780.
