It has taken me 27 years of working in the Sheriff's Office, and now in Shergroup, to see my vision for pro-active enforcement really come to life. Some would say that's a life sentence but for me it's about changing the perception of how enforcement needs to work. I like to think I have always been in tune with the needs of the client - but that's only part of the story in delivering enforcement services. You have to change the hearts and minds of the people who do that work - and that has been a much taller order.
I often say that building a team of pro-active enforcement officers is like herding cats. But with support, coaching and leadership we have created teams of enforcement professionals who want to deliver a service to you.
In the Sherforce business, as I pace the office and the Sherpa database urging removal where there is no other option, I can assure anyone reading this newsletter that our enforcement officers are responding to the needs of the client like never before.
When we created a national team in 2004 the civil servants questioned whether we could attend every Writ and whether we would cherry pick the best ones.
I am proud to say that whatever the nature of the instruction and however difficult, Shergroup Enforcement Officers have delivered. Of course they have had to learn to be quicker, more responsive and more determined, but these traits come through coaching and leadership and as a team we have come together to achieve this.
I have been lucky to build a team of positive upbeat people who have come with me in seeing the Shergroup vision. David Asker has been my IT guru for nearly 20 years and although he is very much the Scottie of the enterprise; we do reach the M-class planet and never run out of dilithium crystals.
June Marenghi has been my friend and technical support in the SLC for eight years. She has helped many clients to perfect their Writs, sort out their interest, and turn on sixpence to get the goods removed and I am grateful to her for her unstintingly loyalty to client service.
Alan Smith and I worked together on the National Sheriffs Campaign and in Alan I have found someone who has a passion for enforcement and has the ability to deliver on operations.
The success of Sherbond over the last year and the start up of Shercurity have been terrific opportunities built on over 25 years of supremacy in the enforcement of Writs of Possession. I am pleased that Alan has picked up this mantle to craft Sherbond into a truly prestigious and successful Shergroup brand.
This year sees the emergence of Shercar for online car registrations and an online Sherlock for online tracing and process serving. Again these are services we believe our clients need and we want to deliver in easy-to-use web formats.
So three years on from our national roadshows we have grown Shergroup to deliver a set of services that work everyday to help our clients. There is always more to do and we are never complacent. For my part our clients are vindicating all my ideas; the need for statistics, for photographs, for online access, and for pro-active enforcement. Thank you for this fantastic support; we never forget without you we don't have a business.
