An eminent group of judges from China's Supreme
People's Court - the highest court in their
judicial system - met with officials from
Shergroup, who were representing the HCEOA,
on their recent visit to the UK to learn about
the UK's methods of enforcement.
Shergroup's Chief Operations Officer Alan
Smith and Authorised High Court Enforcement
Officer (HCEO) Chris Badger were invited to
the Great Britain China Centre in London to
meet with Deputy Director Jiang Bing and the
judges to give them an insight into the work
of HCEOs.
Alan Smith, who is Treasurer of the High
Court Enforcement Officers' Association, said:
"We are honoured to have been invited
to showcase the work of Enforcement Officers
here in the UK. The Chinese have told us that
our experience and good practice is invaluable."
The Vice President of the Supreme People's Court was presented with a copy of
Claire Sandbrook's books, 'Debt Recovery through
the Court' and 'Enforcement of a Judgment',
both published by Sweet & Maxwell.
Two years ago, members of the Hong Kong judiciary met the team at Shergroup, whilst last
year it was the turn of the Vietnamese.
Claire Sandbrook says that she and her team enjoy meeting and greeting foreign
enforcement professionals and hope to be able
to build on this area of activity in the coming
year. As Claire explains: 'Representing one's
country at high profile events in Europe and
on the world stage is a truly remarkable feeling
and one in which me and my team feel very proud.
Enforcement began in 992AD with the Anglo Saxon
Shire Reeves, which became the Sheriffs in the
Court of William The Conqueror. We see it as
a great privilege to be able to promote English
enforcement further afield and to showcase the
innovation that we bring to the subject for
the benefit of fellow professionals."
